Ever wonder why your energy bill is high?
You may know a couple of ways to reduce your energy consumption but never got around to it.
I understand, time is limited - work, kids, baseball games – who has the time to read anymore much less save energy.
I will make it easy for you and I challenge you to take action to save energy once a month and by the end of the year save over $1,000 on your electric bill.
According to the International Energy Agency, TV’s, DVD players, video games and other electrical devices are designed to draw power 24 hours a day, seven days a week and most of this energy is consumed while the product is not in full us, while it is merely “standing by”.
Did you know that electronic devices like a VCR use more power in standby than actually when in use? The VCR uses 19 more times energy on standby.
Energy Star alert: If every American household replaced just one light with an ENERGY STAR light, we would save more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent 9 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions per year, equivalent to the emissions of about 800,000 cars.
Four easy ways reduce standby mode energy:
- Unplug all electronics not in full use – be aware that unplugging alters the programming on some electronic devices. I suggest unplugging electronic units that you don’t use daily like your air conditioner or digital mixer.
- Try to buy Energystar products – especially for the DVD player.
- Buy a switchable power strip so you can turn off multiple devices at once like all computer equipment hooked to one strip.
- Install a low-cost watt meter in your home.
Four simple actions can save you about $125 a year on your electric bill.
